The 'Veterans Alliance Corps of Sand Springs' is a new organization created to help those who have served the country.

The alliance is bringing several veterans groups together in downtown Sand Springs to help make a difference in the lives of those who have fought for freedom.

Some of the agencies that are part of the organization include the local American Legion and Veterans that Matter.

CEO Don Pitts says the group's goal is to recognize and help all who have served with first responders benefitting from the facility as well.

According to Pitts, there is a broad range of challenges veterans face transitioning out of the military and into civilian communities.

The facility is designed to help veterans find camaraderie through group sessions and assist them with things like filing for military benefits.

"Having people that are savvy in the methods and the means to make that filing effective is a very important thing. It's a very frustrating thing for veterans as well and even though the veteran administration has made strides over the years it's still a bit of a challenge,” said Don Pitts, CEO of Veterans Alliance Corps of Sand Springs.

Pitts says the new partnership is a great opportunity for the groups to do more together than they could individually. He credits the City of Sand Springs for helping support the organizations in this new venture.

The alliance is a not-for-profit and to help support themselves they will operate a kitchen and sell goods where people in the community can come and help fund their operations.

“We want the current generation and the new generation to understand the freedoms they enjoy were all paid for by not just the individuals that served but their families. So creating a place where those people can come together and express the camaraderie shared and the activities they may have enjoyed while in the military is one of the long range goals,” Don Pitts, CEO of Veterans Alliance Corps of Sand Springs, said.

The new veterans center will open to the public on September 17th.
