The Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma is now able to help deliver more meals to people in need thanks to a big donation. The food bank was the recipient of a new refrigerated truck donate by the Darden Restaurants Foundation, Penske and Lineage Logistics.
Jacob Garrison, Chief Operating Officer for the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, said that the truck will be used for a mobile pantry program and will help deliver over 200,000 more meals annually to people in need.
The truck will also help the food bank reach more residents in rural communities that might have a difficult time getting to Tulsa to get some of the resources they need.
"Our food pantry program will be able to get out into the rural communities and locate the areas of need within those communities, and this truck is just going to be an additional asset to help us reach those," Garrison said.
While simply getting meals out to the rural communities is important, the refrigerated truck will also allow for the food bank to deliver fresh produce to those communities further away, because it will stay fresh longer.
"Obviously it keeps that produce fresh, and that’s the most important thing. Not only do I want to get these resources in the community, but we want to get them the best resources we can get," Garrison said.
