Sunny skies and very pleasant temperatures are expected on the opening day of the Tulsa State Fair.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
The back door surge of drier air has moved across part of Eastern Oklahoma overnight. While this will result in a spectacular weather forecast for the next few days, it will offer no help with our worsening drought and increasing fire danger issues. Dewpoint temperatures into the 40s this morning and possibly upper 30s this weekend will result in very cool morning temperatures across most of Eastern Oklahoma. Temperatures will start in the upper 50s near the Tulsa metro this morning but will be cooler in valley locations surrounding the area. Daytime highs will range from the upper 70s to lower 80s with abundant sunshine and wind returning from the southeast later today at 10 to 20 mph. Relative humidity during the peak of the afternoon could be in the 20 to 25% range. Thankfully, our wind speeds will not be exceptionally strong, but fire spread rates remain problematic this afternoon. Environmental conditions do not support red flag warnings, but a very high fire danger is currently underway and will continue to be so in the near term.
The upper airflow remains from the northwest across the state. Occasionally this can bring disturbances into the area and support shower and storm chances. But the absence of moisture means no precipitation chances for the foreseeable future. A few clouds are likely tomorrow morning along the I-35 corridor, but the odds of a sprinkle or small shower remain too low to mention. A trough is located across the Pacific Northwest and the tropical system continues across part of NE Florida. This has resulted in a blocking pattern across the middle of the nation for many locations. We have some signals indicating the pattern may bring a system near the state by the middle of next week. But the lack of moisture in the atmosphere and in most model data keeps measurable precipitation out of the forecast.
Ian continues this morning, now as a strong tropical storm across part of Florida and will undergo some changes as it emerges across the northeast coast of Florida later today. The storm will enter the Atlantic and is expected to have another landfall as either a strong tropical storm or a category one hurricane somewhere along the South Carolina coastline Friday. The system will then travel northward while weakening into a tropical depression and then a remnant low. For more about Ian please listen to my daily weather podcast. You’ll find the link listed at the bottom of this discussion.
The Tulsa State Fair opens later today. The weather pattern supports a spectacular start that will continue into the weekend and possibly for the entire run of the fair.
Weather conditions for Friday night football games across Eastern Oklahoma will be pleasantly cool. Kick off temperature will be in the lower 70s with games wrapping up into the 60s.
Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog. Have a super great day!
