The 56th U.S. National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show will be in Tulsa in a couple of weeks, bringing thousands of people to town and making a huge economic impact on the city.
This is the 15th year the Arabian Horse Show will visit Tulsa. The director of national events at the Arabian horse association, Lindsey Phipps, says there will be 1,800 horses competing this year.
Witnessing these horses in action is quite a treat and you don't have to be a horse lover to appreciate their beauty and skill.
"The Arabian horse is super special, its actually the oldest breed and the purest breed, so it's very big and something to celebrate," Phipps said.
She says it takes around nine days to set everything up and it goes from an arena full of dirt to a showplace for talented horses, riders and trainers and this place will become alive and vibrant.
"We'll have the top performance horses across the U.S. and even some from Canada," Phipps said.
Phipps says this is an event everyone in the family can enjoy. Phipps said people can sign up for the Tail tour, where a guide will show them all the behind-the-scenes action at the barns, and allow them to meet a friendly Arabian horse.
Those on the tour will be given a bag filled with fun and educational information about Arabian horses.
There will also be dozens of vendors set up and a photo booth.
"We take them through the barns and kind of teach them more about the Arabian breed. We let them meet an Arabian horse and then you can come and watch these amazing animals perform," Phipps said.
The purpose of the U.S. Nationals is to celebrate the breed and all the hard work owners and trainers put in every year and show people how amazing these horses are.
This is a free show, and it will be here Oct. 21 through Oct 29 at Tulsa's Expo Square.
