In the race to replace Hofmeister as state superintendent, Stitt's education secretary Ryan Walters defeated former Teacher of the Year Jena Nelson by more than 13 points.
Walters said on Six In The Morning Wednesday that his priority is involving parents more in the education process.

"We want to make sure everything going on in the classroom is shown to taxpayers. That there's a focus on the basics and we empower parents, parents want more options. No one knows better for their kids than mom and dad. So we've gotta empower parents to make decisions in their kids' education. It's time to put parents back in charge," said Walters.
