A driver lost control of his pickup truck, went airborne, and smashed onto an Oklahoma City couple's driveway, destroying their vehicles and causing damage to the home.
It happened at about 1:27 a.m. at a home on Southwest Grand Boulevard.
According to the police report, a Ford F-150 was traveling westbound when it went off the road and hit a tree.
The collision caused the truck to go sideways and airborne before it crashed into a Nissan sedan parked on the home's driveway. The impact then pushed the Nissan into a Buick SUV parked next to it.
The F-150 flipped over, hitting both the Nissan and the Buick before finally coming to a rest on a neighbor's front yard.
The Nissan and the Buick were both destroyed. Their owners, Catt Aimon and her boyfriend, Lee Rathbun, were inside the home sleeping when they heard the impact.
"We were gobsmacked, speechless," Aimon said, who was sleeping on her couch with her dog. "I heard an explosion and I kind of sat up and I thought it was the TV."
The crash caused large branches, pieces of the vehicles, and a destroyed mailbox to be scattered all over Aimon and Rathbun's front yard.
"Open the door and it's just a warzone," the couple said. "It looked like a warzone."
The driver of the F-150 was laying in the street, Rathbun said, but he was conscious.
"He was really disoriented," Rathbun said. "I mean, I didn't believe what I had seen."
Police said it was unclear what caused the pickup driver to leave the road. That driver had not been cited at last check.
Although the posted speed limit in that area is 35 miles per hour, Rathbun and Aimon said drivers often race down that stretch of road.
In addition, the crash damaged the home's garage door and broke a window. Rathburn said there was even dirt on the roof.
Without their vehicles, Aimon and Rathbun said they can't get to work. Rathbun also said they could not afford full insurance coverage on their vehicles and were not optimistic that the F-150 driver's insurance would cover the damages.
Rathbun mentioned in an online post that the pickup driver's insurance was expired.
Rathbun created a GoFundMe page to raise money to possibly get a replacement vehicle. Click here to contribute. Those wishing to help can also email Rathbun at LeeRathbun69@yahoo.com.
"Thank God we're still alive," Aimon said, whose birthday was on the day of the crash. "This is one heck of a birthday present."
