Charges Dropped Against Oklahoma County Pastor

Oklahoma County prosecutors drop charges against pastor and candidate for county clerk.

Derrick Scobey was charged with misdemeanor charges in connection with a 2021 protest against the execution of Julius Jones. Scobey thanked outgoing district attorney David Prater for the decision writing on Facebook saying he was grateful for the decision.

"Words cannot express how much my heart is filled with gratitude that District Attorney David Prater made the decision to dismiss these charges.

Although I’ve had to continue with my life over this past year, please be assured that these pending misdemeanor charges have weighed heavily on me, my loving and supportive wife Angela, our children, our families, our church family, and so many others.

November 17th, 2021, I entered the street in front of the Governor’s Mansion not as the antagonist, or as an agitator, but as a concerned and responsible citizen of Oklahoma with an intention of pleading for the life of Julius Jones.

Everything I did that day was done in a very prayerful, peaceful, and planned manner.

In no way can I blame the DPS officers (Oklahoma Highway Patrol) for placing me under arrest. In all honesty, I didn’t leave them with any other option.

During and after my arrest I was most deferential, and well-mannered to the DPS officers, and they were extremely polite, civil, and considerate to me.

The officer who transported me from the Governor’s Mansion guard shack to the Oklahoma County Detention Center sat and talked with me in the OCDC parking lot for almost 3 hours. I believe his intention was to lessen the amount of time I would have to spend inside the jail. He didn’t have to extend this grace to me, but I’m glad that he did.

Once the court proceedings started Assistant DA McKenzie McMahan, and those assisting him were extremely professional at each one of the hearings.

Also, I thank Judge Perry Hudson for the way he presided over each hearing and for allowing community members to sit in the jury box area due to so many people being in the courtroom.

I would like to thank my legal team, Attorneys Joe & Kate White, Charles Weddle III, Nick Porter, and Matthew Cyran for their countless hours in defending and pleading my case.

I would like to thank my wife Angela, our children, our families, and our community for all their support.

Special thanks to the Chairpersons of our Deacon, Trustee, and Finance Ministries, Deacons Charles Ransom, Freddy Wright, and Bennie Stevenson for all the support that each of them and their ministries provided over this last year.
