Oklahoma City police released new information on Tuesday about a violent robbery and assault that left a local CVS employee with a head injury.

Officers captured 34-year-old Charles Scott on Monday morning following a short pursuit that ended in a crash near northwest 14th and Classen Boulevard. Scott was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a number of felony complaints including three counts of shooting with intent to kill for firing at an officer.

Scott is accused of holding a CVS employee at gunpoint and forcing them to the office for money. Police said Scott pistol-whipped the employee during the hold-up at the northwest 23rd and Classen Boulevard store. As the robbery was in progress, a retired police officer on his way to a security job walked into the store.

“That retired officer and the suspect did get in a physical altercation,” said Captain Valerie Littlejohn, Oklahoma City Police Department. “He was able to gain the retired officer’s firearm, so he had two firearms on him.”

Scott ran out of the store just as the first officer showed up at the robbery scene.

“That suspect fired shots at the officer,” said Littlejohn.

The officer was not hit, but his patrol car took a bullet, according to department officials. The armed robbery suspect took off in an SUV with officers tailing him.

“Officers pursued the suspect until the suspect crashed at northwest 14th and Classen,” said Littlejohn.

Police said two people were taken to the hospital that morning.

“The employee at CVS is being treated at a local hospital and the suspect, as well,” said Littlejohn.

Scott’s current bond was set at more than $270,000.
