Speed stacking was started in 1999, with the competition side starting in 2006, but 8-year-old Neev has taken the sport to an entirely different level.
He’s only been speed-stacking for about a year.
“At the beginning, I didn’t like it but then I started getting better and I started liking it more,” said Neev Makkar a second grader at Earlywine Elementary School in Moore.
Every day after school he practices for three to four hours, and this isn’t pushed by his parents or teachers.
“My dad, he’s like stop doing it, give your hands a break,” said Neev.
He’s self-driven and really doesn’t want to do anything else.
“Not many other things I mainly stay indoors and do cup stacking,” said Neev.
Just really how impressive is this 8-year-old?
“Like sometimes I feel like they need to slow down like is this in real-time?” said Jacey Martin with Speed Stacks.
Speed stacks host competitions all over the country and Neev has become somewhat of a celebrity at the events. He has even broken his own records.
“I got to the stack of champions which chooses the top three of the top four and I got a two-point three, three, and in the three, six, three I got three point two six and they are all USA records,” said Neev.
He competes with his older brother and their friends, and they all like the sport, just not quite as much as Neev. Even with national records he still sometimes surprises himself with his speed. Neev and his fellow competitors are all straight “A” students.
