An elderly person was found dead inside a burning home, this happened near Northwest 63rd and Expressway.
The Fire department said during their second search they also located some cats that had passed away.
Residents on NW 62nd and Tulsa Avenue said not a lot happens on their street, that all changed Friday afternoon when fire engines came through one after another.
“I ran to the side and I saw like lots of smoke coming out and stuff and I didn’t want to get too close because the smell of the flames were like hitting my nose…it was just too much,” said Shiloh Murry and Darius who live next door.
Jim Gardner in Bob Mills Sky News 9 was on top of the scene as firefighters cut a hole through the roof of the home.
“I knew there was something wrong when the fire trucks came,” said the neighbors.
“At approximately 3:45 we got a call for smoke coming out of the attic of the house. We showed up and crews showed up on scene. They went in and discovered they had smoke coming out of the building, so they went in for a fire attack. At the same time as that fire attack, they performed a search,” said Maj. Ron Robertson with the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
That search took a heartbreaking turn.
“They were able to locate an elderly victim and then the secondary search we were able to locate three cats that were also fatalities,” he said.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department said most of the fire was contained to the back of the house.
“We had fire mainly to a room in the back corner of the house. It got into the attic a little bit and then we were able to get a good knock down on it, so the fire is out right now. We do extensive overhaul and then we close up the hole that we cut,” said Major Robertson.
At this point they don’t know how the fire started. They said OCPD will be investigating alongside the fire department.
