36-Year-Old Arrested In Connection To Deadly Stabbing In SW OKC

A man is behind bars after being accused of stabbing a man to death outside a 7-Eleven in southwest Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City Police arrested 36-year-old Jontue Beard in connection to the murder of a man last month. 

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, this isn't his first time behind bars.

The Oklahoma County Detention Center said Beard is facing three complaints, one complaint is first-degree murder. 

An arrest warrant said Beard was involved in a verbal altercation with a man on Jan. 23 at a 7-Eleven parking lot on Southwest 29th Street.

That altercation turned violent, and Beard allegedly stabbed Javier Ortiz. Witnesses said he told them he was stabbed in the heart. A witness drove Ortiz to Integris Hospital where he later died.

"There is video available in the area, investigators will be utilizing that," Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

Court documents said surveillance video showed a man walk into the 7- Eleven after stabbing Ortiz holding what looked like a sharp object in his hand. 

Police said they were able to get a clear look of the man's face in the video and determined it was Beard.

Police also believe he's a suspect in a hit-and-run in September. 

A probable cause affidavit said Beard hit a parked car at the victim's home. The victim approached Beard, who then punched the victim three times in the chest.

Before leaving, the affidavit said, "the defendant retrieved a black semi-auto pistol and pointed it towards the victim."

Beard is facing an assault and battery charge along with leaving the scene of an accident for this crime.

His current mugshot is now being added to an extensive history. 

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, he has nine felony convictions.

Officers said they were also able to identify Beard based on the food stamps card he used when making a purchase at the 7-Eleven.
