The man convicted of killing a 6-year-old boy in a car crash back in 2015 has had sentence reduced.
Kelly Corn was convicted of killing Saxton Watley in a wrong way crash in April 2015. A jury found him guilty of several charges, one being second-degree murder. His life sentence is now 25 years with time served.
A tragic head-on collision took Watley’s life in 2015. He was only 6 years old and attended Angie Debo Elementary School in Edmond.
The man behind the wheel of the car that hit him was Kelly Corn.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Corn was driving his Chevrolet truck on the westbound lanes of the Kilpatrick Turnpike but was going eastbound. Corn slammed into a Lexus, inside was Saxton, his brother, and his mom.
Corn was charged in 2018 with two counts of causing an accident resulting in great bodily injury while driving under the influence, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and leaving the scene of an accident involving an unattended vehicle. He was also sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder of Saxton.
This week, that changed. Judge Heather Coyle ruled to reduce Corn’s life sentence to 25 years with time served.
Court documents said Corn has completed several programs behind bars.
The documents mention he is “cooperative with staff” and “provides exceptional work performance and always willing to assist with other inmates.”
It also said his level to reoffend is low.
News 9 did reach out to the Watley family. They said they did not want to comment on the court's ruling.
