A woman was airlifted after a home exploded Monday night in Canadian County, leveling the structure.
The explosion happened on 192nd Street Northwest, near the intersection of North Courtney Road and a few miles north of Calumet.
Firefighters got the call at about 6:09 p.m., Calumet Fire Chief Terry Brungardt said.
A woman was trying to light a hot water heater when the home exploded, Brungardt said. Somehow, there must have been extra gas in the house, Brungardt added.
The woman then made her way to a neighbor's home about a quarter of a mile down the road, Brungardt said.
A man, who lived at the home, told News 9 that according to his parents, the woman crawled out of the basement and called for help. His parents then put cold water on her and called 911. A helicopter airlifted her to a hospital.
Brungardt said he did not know the name or condition of the victim. News 9 called the Fire Marshal's Office and is waiting to hear back.
No one else was in the home as far as Brungardt knew. He said the explosion appeared to be an accident.
A Go Fund Me for the victim can be found here.
