Oklahoma City Police found a man hiding out with a dead body after a standoff Saturday.
Oklahoma City Police arrested Jake Harris Saturday in northwest Oklahoma City.
Harris is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, Amanda Miller.
According to Miller’s children, Harris had sat inside the couple’s home with her decomposing body, for nearly a week, when police forced their way inside.
The beloved mother and grandmother who was taken too soon was honored in a balloon release.
“She was the best Mimi in the world, and them kids lost a great Mimi. He took her from them,” said Amanda Miller’s daughter, Danielle Mayfield.
The OKC SWAT team surrounded the couple’s house Saturday after a visitor said they saw a body inside.
“He opened the door he seen my mom laying there and asked what the hell?” said Miller’s daughter, Shaylynn Montoya.
Hours into negotiations, police said Jake Harris began shooting. Police used a battering ram to crash into the home. Video showed police firing non-lethal rounds. Harris surrendered.
“They shot him with a bean bag gun, they shouldn’t have, they should have shot him with one of their rifles,” said Mayfield.
According to court filings Harris told detectives he had been arguing with Amanda Miller, his live-in girlfriend "when he grabbed his shotgun during the argument."
“She grabbed the gun, he shot her in her side and killed her,” said Mayfield.
Previously battered and bruised, the daughters said their mother had left Harris once before.
“I told her please don’t go back over there mom. And I guess the day she left, she went back over there,” said Montoya.
While court filings do not specify the day Miller was killed, her children said police told them she was killed March 19.
“Then he cleaned up the freaking scene and put her in the garage, on the floor,” said Mayfield.
Her children said they were haunted by their mother's last post to Facebook just hours before her death. It read in part, “Can somebody come get me...negative is wearing on my shoulders…”
“His judgment day will come and he won't make it to an eternal life, one way or another he’s going to get his,” said Mayfield.
“I hope he dies in there, I don’t say God forgive me, I want him gone, I don’t want to ever see his face,” said Miller’s daughter, Haven Montoya.
Harris had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Canadian County.
Miller leaves behind four daughters and ten grandchildren.
