Elementary PE Class Gets A Donation Of New Equipment

We all know, most teachers use their personal money to buy school supplies for their classroom, but how does that work if you’re the PE teacher? 

“We’re really just trying to get the resources that are needed into our local classrooms,” said Holly McGowen with Home Creations. 

This is year two of Home Creations clear the list for teachers. 

“This year we actually had 150 submissions from teachers, submitting their wish list for school supplies that would help their classroom,” said McGowen.  

The home builders select from the applications which list to fill, and this year there was one that stood out. It was a list submitted from Aaron Davila, the PE teacher at John Glen Elementary School. 

“This is our first PE class,” said McGowen. 

“We didn’t have updated equipment, honestly we had equipment that was from the nineties, before I was born,” said John Glen Elementary school PE teacher, Aaron Davila. 

Davila, Coach AJ to the kids, is in his first year at John Glen elementary, he wasn’t sure if his list would qualify, but he submitted it anyway. 

“Honestly, we just said, you know what anything we can get, let’s do it. I know we didn’t have a volleyball net, pickleball or anything like that, we didn’t have the best equipment, so we needed new equipment to introduce these kids to new sports,” said Davila.  

Beyond the entertainment aspect, Coach AJ knows firsthand how this can impact the students. 

“Some of this stuff motivates kids through sports to go to college, middle school, finish high school. And I can speak for myself, I wouldn’t have thought of college if it wasn’t for sports,” said Davila.  

As the kindergarten students came in for gym class, the room lit up with smiles, from the students, the teachers, and the employees with Home Creations, who were present for the big moment. 

“I mean, it warms your heart. When they walked in and saw all of the new equipment and their faces lit up, I mean that’s all you need,” said McGowen.  

The students and gym instructors now look forward to the remainder of the school year with the new equipment.
