During the press conference, Stitt made the following statement:

“Just like most Americans, when we start politicizing the justice system, I think it’s a dangerous, dangerous precedent. And so, to have a former President indicted on a charge. First off, nobody is above the law. We will enforce the rule of law in America, and I think everybody knows that, but this is a local DA that feels very political. The previous DA refused to bring charges, the local one does, the next one does. And so, people can see right through that.
There is a guy named Beria, and I think about his quote. When he was the secret police for Stalin and Stalin was worried about someone coming in after him and taking over. His secret police guy (Beria) would say ‘show me the man, I’ll show you the crime.’
And is that really where we are getting to as Americans? That we are going to be tif-for-tat and then the next party when they are in charge, their going to try to indict politcal opponents? I just think that’s horrible, it’s dangerous. I’m not even saying that…both sides need to say this, we need to get beyond this because it’s a dangerous, dangerous position for our country. And I think we lose confidence in this justice system if they are going to go after political opponents. I think Oklahoma and I think Americans are just disgusted by it.
