Batter up! It's Opening Day for the Tulsa Drillers.
The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at One OK Field for the first home game of the season. The Drillers are getting back into the swing of things. The team takes on the San Antonio Missions to kick off the season.
"It has been a sprint to the deadline here, but we're so excited. We can't wait to celebrate with Tulsa,” said Assistant General Manager Justin Gorski.
Gorski says you can expect some new features this year, including a mode of transportation for the mascot. You can catch Hornsby riding in style on a new baseball cap golf cart, and the official team store is revamped and ready to welcome fans. The store is stocked with new merchandise and the return of the 50s logo Oily the Oiler.
You'll see a new look inside ready for people to deck out in gear. You can also play games like Giant Jenga or cornhole in the latest hang-out spot.
"So, whether you're sitting in the stands with your family, on a first date, or with a co-worker, whatever it may be. This is the place for everyone to come out and enjoy themselves. And we're just so proud of that and what we do to work hard to provide that experience,” Gorski said.
Come hungry for some added menu items. On the list, a fried pork chop sandwich, the Hennessey Homerun chicken sandwich, and garlic fries, paying homage to the team's affiliate, the LA Dodgers.
"We always say once you walk into our doors, once you walk through those gates, the worry and stress of life goes away for a couple of hours, and you get to enjoy it and relax."
This is the first of 69 home games to run through September.
Gorski says this year is hitting a record number of fireworks shows, 23 for 2023.
The opening night parade is at 6 p.m. Thursday with the game starting at 7:05 p.m.
