Firefighters worked into the night on Monday to control a wildfire in Logan County. Several agencies from all over Oklahoma helped get this fire under control. Their efforts saved several homes.
In the southern part of Logan County, a person won't hear the ambient city noise of rush hour traffic. Just a rush of an afternoon breeze.
"It's been awesome," said Vanessa Shadix, who lives in southern Logan County. "It's so peaceful to come out here from the city where we're both working hard and just relax out here."
This is the reason why Venessa Shadix and her family live here. However, on Monday, the volume cranked up on Vanessa's quiet street.
"Trying to decide what to do. What to do first; what to get out of the house,” Shadix said. “Obviously, our pets have to come first."
Homeowners along Westminster Road near Guthrie and Arcadia had to evacuate Monday afternoon as a fire burned toward several homes.
"Praying all the coming that everyone was safe," Shadix said.
The fire just scrapped the edge of Shadix’s property.
"It's a little scary to realize how close it's getting," Shadix said.
Shadix said her husband and her mother-in-law are safe.
"We got her out of the house and the dogs immediately," Shadix said.
Shadix's home is also untouched.
"So far everything's been really great and we're so thankful," Shadix said.
This preserves a dream for Shadix's family who wouldn't want to live elsewhere.
"When you work hard from seven to six and come out here to the peace, it's very rewarding," Shadix said.
All thanks to the firefighters who wouldn't let this fire disturb the peace.
Firefighters will be keeping an eye on hotspots. The Logan County burn ban has been extended to May 1.
