A music event on Thursday on the city’s southwest side turned tragic. Police said one man and a woman were shot and killed at the scene. A third shooting victim was expected to survive. Investigators have not released the names or ages of the deceased, waiting for next of kin notifications.

People attending the music event told News 9 they were devastated when something that was supposed to be positive turned violent. Police said on Friday no arrests have been made but that it was still early in the investigation.

Gunshots turned a music event near Southwest 29th Street and Meridian Avenue into chaos late Thursday night.

“Sitting in line waiting to perform,” said Devon Harvey, a witness. “I mean a shot just went off in the back room.”

Devon Harvey traveled with friends from Tulsa for the event. He never expected to be on the floor of the business fearing for his life.

“Then I start seeing everybody hit the ground and then my boy pulls me to the floor,” said Harvey. “And we just hear shots coming out of the room. Then we heard it stop and he grabs me, and we just dip out the back door.”

When police arrived at the scene at the strip mall, they located three victims.

“Two people were found dead there on the scene, “ said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department. “One person was also injured by gunfire. Officers rendered aid.”

Police said the 22-year-old woman was badly injured and was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was expected to survive.

Witnesses waited across the street as police closed the parking lot to investigate overnight. Harvey watched the medical examiner remove bodies from the scene.

“These five police officers out here now have to go to somebody’s house, somebody’s parents and tell them their kid’s not coming home,” said Harvey.

Police do not have a motive for the shooting, only that an altercation broke out inside a business and spilled into the parking lot.

“You come out here to do something positive for the community and bad things happen,” said Antonio Porter, a witness. “Know what I’m saying? Sad things happened tonight.”

Witnesses are asked to call the homicide tip line at (405) 297-1200 if they have information about the shooting.
