Muscogee Creek Nation Lighthorse Police arrested an Okmulgee man twice in two days. He was first accused of violating a protective order, then accused of stealing just hours later.
When officers arrested Kenneth Acton the second time, inside an Okmulgee hotel room, they said he had all of the stolen goods with him.
Acton left his clothes and jail paperwork in the burglary victim's yard, officers said. An officer recognized the name because he had arrested Acton the night before.
When they arrested Acton the second time, he was also wearing the burglary victim's pants, officers said.
Police said it all started when they arrested Acton for violating a protective order last Friday night, and learned he had been living in the woods next to the victim's house, so he could spy on his girlfriend.
Police said he had an airsoft pistol, a knife and jug of coins with him when he was arrested, but officers didn't think much of it at the time.
The next morning, police said they got called to a burglary in the same area and Corporal Brent Colbert noticed something familiar in that victim's yard.
"I dealt with him the night prior. I said, 'those are the shorts he had on, that's his hat he had on last night.' I'm sitting here thinking like, 'wow, did he really go back over there,'” said Colbert.
Police later found Acton at an Okmulgee hotel, and also found all of the stolen items, like football jerseys, watches, a PlayStation, hunting bows and rare coins.
"As we are searching and figuring out what all is stolen inside the room, inside the bag with the stolen property was his jail ID from Friday night. It had his picture on it, name, everything. We are absolutely ecstatic to get this criminal off the street,” said Colbert.
Officers said the airsoft pistol, knife and coins Acton had on him during the first arrest, were also all stolen.
"After he gets out, he goes and commits more crimes. Luckily we have some really good officers here that thought, 'you know what, I'm not just going to take the report and be done with it.' They got a detailed report, and followed up and found out where he was staying at,” said Colbert. "We are committed to getting our victims their property back when stuff like this happens. We are committed to keeping our citizens safe."
Acton is now in the Okfuskee County jail facing tribal charges of having stolen property and burglary.
