A search is underway on Thursday morning for a man who authorities say shot an officer in Okmulgee.
According to authorities, Okmulgee police were called to a burglary in progress around 1:45 a.m. near East 2nd Street and North Central Avenue. Two officers went to the location with one going to the back of the building. Investigators say that the officer who went to the back of the residence was ambushed by the suspect, 34-year-old Christopher Alfred Harris. The two exchanged gunfire and the officer was hit. Investigators say Harris ran away on foot and is believed to be armed with an AK-47 rifle.
The officer was transported to a Tulsa hospital for treatment and was released just after 9 a.m. Okmulgee Police say about 30 officers from six agencies including the FBI, the US Marshal Service, and Oklahoma Highway Patrol are looking for Harris. The public is asked to stay conscious of their surroundings.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the use of force against the officer and by the officer.
