The ORU baseball team is headed to the college world series for the second time in school history. The Golden Eagles knocked off the Oregon Ducks Sunday night in the Super Regional.
Fresh off their win in Oregon, the Golden Eagles will be back at their home stadium Monday night where they'll prepare for their trip to Omaha.
It's an exciting time to be an ORU baseball fan, even for other student athletes on campus. Senior Jaxie Wakley plays volleyball and says a win for baseball lifts up the whole school.
"We are very excited for them and just like we love getting to watch and support them, we love when any sport does good," says Wakley.
Following a trip to the March Madness tournament by the men's basketball team, ORU athletics is gaining momentum. Deputy Athletic Director Paul Kabbes loves to see the school represented on a national stage.
"Between our baseball and basketball team, we've won over 80 games this year, it's been amazing just to see the growth and we know that this is just the start," says Kabbes.
He says even though it's been decades since the baseball team made it this far, he has high hopes.
"Our guys have been the underdog all year and they love that, they relish that opportunity to go play against the big boys," he says.
Kabbes says to prepare for the next step, the team won't get much down time.
"They know it's time to get back to work, those guys will be back at practice tomorrow, they'll be getting into it, they'll be ready to go, because they know that it doesn't stop here," says Kabbes.
Jaxie Wakley hopes some of the ORU magic will rub off on her upcoming volleyball season.
"Hey we would love that," says Wakley.
Keeping the Golden Eagle trend of success going.
The Golden Eagles' first game will be against TCU.
