Oklahoma Congressman and rancher Frank Lucas says work on the 2023 farm bill is running about 5 months behind, meaning it may not get done before the 2018 5-year authorization expires.

Lucas says he expect for there to be an extension to prevent farm programs from expiring on October 1st.

The bill includes commodities like support programs, crop insurance and SNAP benefits, some of which could see reduced funding if some GOP members get their way.

Lucas says leadership is promising to reduce those cuts.

But if they don't, he is prepared to push for a full year extension.

Lucas says he predicts the final vote on the farm bill won't be until early next year.
