Demolition has begun on the new Edmond City Center Complex, which includes a new municipal court and city hall.
During the two-year construction project, visitors in the area will have to deal with a new headache: spending extra time looking for parking.
Downtown Edmond business owners tell News 9 they are concerned the multi-million-dollar city complex will take away from their own businesses.
The manager of Lulu and Lo’s Lauren Frazier said the loss of foot traffic has already begun due to the construction.
"A lot of my customers have said 'I wanted to come by, but I haven't found any parking,'" Frazier said. "Before they started this project, they were replacing the water lines in the alley ways so that was a big thing that disrupted downtown as well."
Edmond city officials said downtown businesses did receive a hand-delivered letter and map saying the businesses can expect disruption throughout the project.
"We apologize for the inconvenience but in order to complete the project, we have to close some areas," City of Edmond's director of management services Casey Moore said.
The new city complex center is expected to be completed in March of 2025 .
