Local Award Winning Chef Announces New Restaurant In Skirvin Hotel

Since winning the James Beard award in June, things have been just a little crazy for Chef Andrew Black, and they are about to get a lot crazier.

“I’m just used for the vessel, I’m just the one that is blessed with faith and belief,” said Chef Andrew Black.

At his acceptance speech for the prestigious award, Chef Black, at times getting choked up, accepted the award, giving credit to the people of the place he now calls home.

“The community, Oklahoma was dropping off checks so we could survive,” said Black.

It was only fitting that he hosted a reception in honor of the award.

“So many people have given to me in Oklahoma, so I felt it was only right to give back, have an audience, a party and say thank you,” said Black.

“I started in this hotel, when I came to Oklahoma City, this place is very dear to me, in fact it can get emotional for me,” said Black.

Then the special announcement.

“And so, guys, it’s only right that I am coming home,” said Black.

Chef Black and his team have purchased the Park Avenue restaurant inside the Skirvin hotel.

“Coming back and owning that restaurant is a dream come true,” said Black.   

Chef Black, who currently owns The Grey Sweater, Black Walnut and Gilded Acorn will soon open Pearl Mesta inside the historic Skirvin hotel.

“Every city has an iconic restaurant. You go to New York, The Waldorf Astoria has an historic restaurant, you go to Paris at The Ritz, iconic restaurant,” said Black.  

With all the restaurants, awards and all the celebrations, Chef Black remains humble.

“I try to make sure it doesn’t control me or control the team, we are always going to stay true to who we are,” said Black.

Humble and focused for the future.

“There’s always something next, believe in me. And it’s always going to be bigger and better,” said Black.

Chef Black plans to open the restaurant next year, however they are already taking reservations.
