Shawnee Wolves Prepare To Take On 2023-24 Football Season After April Tornado

The Shawnee High School football team is preparing to step onto the Oklahoma Baptist University football field for the first time during the 2023-24 season. 

After the April 19 tornado damaged much of the school's sports facilities, local areas have been reaching out to help out. 

Shawnee Public Schools Superintendent Aaron Epsolt said the school is safe enough for students to return but there is still a lot of work to be done. 

Varsity football captain Ryan High said he is ready to play and looks forward to making a comeback after a tough season last year.

"We love being the underdogs because everyone expects us to lose, but you know I say ... let's go win some football," High said. 

No matter where the team plays, High and his teammates are grateful for a chance to play and look forward to experiencing the game on a college field .

The Shawnee Wolves play Seminole High School on Sept. 2 at OBU.
