Blustery and Cooler Weather Across Oklahoma

A wind advisory remains in effect for northern Oklahoma through the morning hours, while a high wind warning is active for some locations across southeastern Kansas. Northwest winds of 25 to nearly 50 mph are expected early this morning, before the pressure gradient relaxes and the winds gradually diminish later today.

Wednesday wind alerts

Afternoon highs today will be cooler compared to recent days, with most locations reaching the lower to mid-50s. A few areas in far northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas could stay in the upper 40s for most of the day before reaching the lower 50s.

Wednesday highs

By tonight, nearby high pressure will bring lighter winds with temperatures dropping into the upper 20s and lower 30s by Thursday morning.

Thursday morning lows

Thursday afternoon will feature a sunshine and cloud mix along with daytime highs in the upper 50s or lower 60s. Lower wind speeds will be expected.

What’s Next?

The next storm system is set to develop quickly and move across the Central Plains Friday night into Saturday. Before its arrival, strong south winds of 15 to 30 mph on Friday afternoon will elevate fire danger with afternoon highs reaching the upper 60s to lower 70s.

7-day temperature timeline

A cold front will move through the area late Friday night and early Saturday, bringing northwest winds and cooler weather for Saturday. Temperatures will drop below seasonal averages, with Saturday morning lows in the mid-30s and daytime highs in the lower 50s.

Do I need Rain Gear This Weekend?

A weak upper-level storm system is expected to pass through the region this weekend, producing some shower activity. Most data suggest the showers will occur across the southern parts of the area, extending into North Texas.

Low precipitation probabilities will persist in the Tulsa metro, while southern Oklahoma, particularly along the Red River Valley north to the I-40 corridor will see higher chances. Severe weather is not anticipated.

What Can We Expect Early Next Week?

As this second wave exits the region, slightly warmer conditions will return Sunday. Morning lows will remain in the mid-30s, but daytime highs will climb into the lower 60s. By Monday, morning lows will be in the 40s, with daytime highs reaching the mid-70s, ahead of another storm system expected by midweek.

Fire Danger Issues Remain

Despite the robust rainfall amounts we received yesterday morning, fire spread rates will continue to be of concern through the next 7 days with different combinations of environmental conditions creating higher spread rates on some days and lower on others. Please remain aware of this potential.
