A powerful storm system battered Oklahoma overnight, producing tornadoes, dangerous flooding, and widespread wind damage across multiple regions of the state. From the Bob Mills Weather Center, meteorologist Jed Castles shared updates on the destruction and what’s ahead in the forecast.

Severe Storms and Tornadoes Hit Overnight

Storm trackers and News 9 crews were out in force as multiple tornadoes were spotted, especially in southern and eastern Oklahoma. One notable tornado formed along a squall line near Medill, with radar showing clear hook echoes and debris signatures. The system originated near Lebanon and tracked northward, impacting areas near Medill and Holdenville.

Tornadoes 4/20

Radar also indicated possible tornadoes in Oakman, northeast of Ada, where damage to barns and buildings was reported. Windows were blown out of businesses, and vehicles were overturned, including a semi-truck near a Maurice’s store.

The town of Spaulding also had homes and trailers damaged by Saturday night's tornado outbreak.

Flooding Leaves a Deadly Mark

Flooding quickly became a life-threatening issue. In Moore, floodwaters overwhelmed a vehicle, tragically resulting in two fatalities. Throughout the metro and southern parts of the state, roads were submerged, and vehicles were swept away by fast-moving water.

Floods 4/20

Photos submitted by viewers showed floodwaters rising over car hoods, downed trees, and debris-littered streets. Areas around Ardmore and south of Tulsa also saw significant flooding, according to reports.

What’s Ahead: Drier Days Coming

While storms and light showers persisted through Easter morning, meteorologists say the system is finally moving out. Radar shows rain moving northeast and diminishing, with calmer weather expected to return by Sunday evening.

Monday and Tuesday are forecast to bring sunny skies, mild temperatures in the 70s, and lighter winds — a welcome break following a turbulent weekend.

Temps 4/21

However, more storms could return later in the week, with chances for rain and storms on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Easter Not a Total Washout

Despite the wet and muddy conditions, families still ventured outdoors for Easter activities. Meteorologist Castles noted that thick, wet grass made egg hunts a bit messy — but kids might enjoy the challenge. “Make sure they’ve got their galoshes on,” he said.

The state continues to clean up from a night of destruction while preparing for more spring storms ahead.
