After weeks of dry conditions, much-needed rain is on the way for Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. A storm system currently moving through the Southwest is expected to bring showers to central Oklahoma by midweek, with Thursday shaping up to be the wettest day.
What will the weather be like this weekend?
On Sunday, it will be several degrees cooler with cloudy skies and shower chances.
The highest chance for rain will be in the southeast.
"Timing is still a little uncertain, but as early as Wednesday, Oklahomans could see light rain, with the best chance for significant rainfall on Thursday," said Meteorologist Andrew Adams. "The exact storm track and rainfall amounts are still coming into focus, but the region could see much-needed moisture, especially in western Oklahoma, which has gone 70 days without measurable rain in some areas."
Ahead of the rain, a cold front brought chilly temperatures to OKC on Sunday, with wind chills dipping into the teens and 20s.
Monday morning lows will fall into the 20s, but a gradual warm-up will follow. Highs will reach the upper 40s Monday and climb into the low 50s Tuesday.
By Thursday, temperatures will hover in the 50s as moisture combines with a strong low-pressure system, potentially delivering widespread rain.
Some forecasts suggest one to two inches of rainfall across parts of the state, with isolated areas receiving even more.
"Rain chances depend on the storm’s speed and strength," Adams said. "We’re monitoring for possible severe weather, but the primary focus will be rain relief for a parched state."
For those planning to wash their cars, Adams suggested waiting until after the rain passes or letting Mother Nature handle the job.
