A man was arrested after he was accused of attempting to kidnap a 13-year-old at a bus stop in Enid, police said.
John Gravlee, 44, was arrested on the complaints of attempted child stealing, impersonating an officer, theft of property and violating a protective order in another case, police said.
The 13-year-old told police Gravlee approached him Thursday afternoon and asked if he was his son while the teen was walking home from school.
On Friday, Gravlee approached and asked the teen if he was his other son before he tried to entice the teen to get inside of his vehicle, police said.
The teenager said he didn’t get inside of the vehicle and missed the bus before heading back home.
When the teen got home, Gravlee began knocking on the door and when the teen’s mom answered the door, he asked her if her son was okay, according to police.
Gravlee claimed he was with the Department of Defense and following up on child abduction cases, police said.
The mother then asked Gravlee for his credentials, to which he only showed the back of a Department of Defense ID card.
When the woman asked to see the front of it, she saw a picture of a woman, police said.
When officers responded to the scene, Gravlee claimed his son was missing and the teen looked identical to his son.
Then, officers asked for an ID, and Gravlee presented them the DOD ID card before he was taken into custody.
