Cassie Flores’ brother said his heartbreak was mixed with anger when he learned his brother-in-law murdered the family.

“You know, why the kids? What did the kids do? The kids have nothing to do,” said Jose Martin Flores, victim’s brother. “Why my sister? Why not just him? You know he had so much anger, why not just him?”

Jose Martin Flores will never forget the phone call from a sibling Wednesday night.

“He said there are ambulances here,” said Flores.

Flores knew something horrible happened but did not know his sister and her three children, ages nine, five and two, were murdered.

“So, I called my sister. I kept calling Cassie and I texted her,” said Flores. “I said ‘Dude what’s going on? Who is in the hospital?’ Cassie never answered.”

Flores' father found his daughter and three grandchildren dead inside his home. Police said Ruben Armendariz, 28, killed his estranged wife and children then took his own life.

“You never see something like this but in movies or never expect it to happen to you,” said Flores. “Nobody expects it to happen to anybody.”

Flores said the loss has devastated their entire family, more so his father. He was the last person to see his daughter and grandchildren.

“He closes his eyes, and he just sees them there, you know?,” said Flores.

Flores is appreciative of everyone who has contributed to the GoFundMe for funeral costs. The money will cover burial costs of Flores and her three children.
