The City of Norman is launching a new public transit app today designed to cover areas not serviced by buses.

The app, called Norman on Demand, will work like Uber or Lyft, the city said.

The app will also power OU's SafeRide program, meant to curb drinking and driving.

A rider's first six rides are free, and after that it is $2 per ride.

OU students ride free during OU student SafeRide hours, which is from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
