A traffic stop turned into a struggle with an armed suspect, police say, on August 24. Police have released the body camera footage from the incident.

Officer Alfredo Lopez-Soto pulled over a car in southwest Oklahoma City.

The police video shows the suspect, 27-year-old Logan Hathaway get out of the car and take off on food. Lopez-Soto was able to catch up to him and take him to the ground.

Hathaway then began reaching toward his waist, according to police, and pulled out a handgun.

Hathaway discharged a round while Lopez-Soto was attempting to get control of the weapon, according to police.

While the struggle continued, a passenger from the cat, 57-year-old Robin Palma walked around to the driver’s seat and left the scene.

Responding officers helped Lopez-Soto take Hathaway into custody.

Police recovered the gun and a loaded magazine.

Hathaway was a wanted fugitive, Oklahoma City Police later found out, by the Department of Corrections for a 2022 felony conviction.

Hathaway remains behind bars and is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery on a police officer and possession of a firearm.

Palma was arrested on DUI complaints and obstructing an officer.

Police also took 46-year-old Alfonso Rodriguez into custody on obstruction of an officer complaints.

Lopez-Soto received minor injuries in the struggle.
