NORMAN, Okla. -

University of Oklahoma head football coach Brent Venables got personal during Saturday's post-game interview.

Venables talked about his wife Julie's battle with breast cancer.

"She's a fighter," Venables said. "She's going to have a pretty extensive surgery here in the first part of November.

The Sooners wore pink for breast cancer awareness during their game Saturday against UCF.

"She's ready for that, we got a great game plan," Venables said.

Venables announced in August his wife has been diagnosed in June.

Venables has a history of family battling the disease. Venables' mother, Nancy Schumaker, died of cancer in 2005.

Coach Venables says he hopes he and his wife can help bring awareness for early detection.
