Bixby Art Studio Owner Accepting Donations To Make Art Kits For Children In Hospital, Foster Care

When kids like John Blain come to art class at Bluebird Art Studios, they can let their creativity fly.

“I love the thrill of creating something and when you look at something that you created, it feels a lot better than looking at something somebody else created,” he said. 

John says a mere canvas can open up a world of endless possibilities.

“It can be anything, this simple piece of paper can transform into anything you want it to,” he said. 

But to be a good artist, you have to have a good teacher.

Studio owner Cierra Campbell says she’s been involved in art for as long as she can remember.

"It’s probably my favorite thing about teaching art is seeing their talents flourish right before my eyes,” she said. 

She teaches up to 30 kids in one day, but she says she wants to reach more and give them the chance to unleash their inner artist. So, for the whole month of November, she is accepting art supply donations which will be made into kits and hand-delivered to kids in the hospital and foster care.

“I believe art should be for everyone, especially those kids who need it most, who can’t physically come to the studio or who are struggling financially through their family life and stuff like that,” she said. 

Every month, Campbell teaches a free art class at the Saint Francis Hospital and says the kids absolutely love it.

“They have the biggest smile on their face and they say ‘I can do art today’,” Campbell said. 

And John believes the art kits will help the kids in the hospital or foster care feel the same joy he feels.

“Everybody deserves to draw and create wonderful things,” he said.

The studio will be having a day where parents and students can come help pack the art kits. They’re expecting to deliver the kits to the children in the middle of December.
