The Collinsville Police Department is getting ready to double the size of its station. The department said it desperately needed this expansion to better serve the community.
Police Chief Matthew Burke said the current building just isn't big enough anymore.
He said the department has gone from nine officers five years ago, to 16 starting next year.
The chief said his department has added more dispatchers, detectives, and code enforcement officers to meet Collinsville's growth.
He said all of that growth means the building needs to expand as well. It will be space used to serve the officers and the community as a whole.
"We also plan on holding classes for our community that we can instruct them on active shooter classes, CPR classes, things like that that we can actually teach to the community," Chief Burke said.
The city's sales tax funded the project, which voters approved last November.
The groundbreaking will take place on Nov. 20. The actual construction will begin on Dec. 17.
