Tulsa leaders hope artwork can bring new life to the Route 66 Historical Village and they're looking for artists to help.
Leaders hope new artwork will increase the visibility and bring in more visitors.
The Route 66 Historical Village is home to a historic train depot and is already a big tourist attraction for many.
The city is hoping to get artists or a team to create something that can be used as a 360 degree art piece where visitors can take pictures.
The artwork should showcase the history of the site. The historical village is significant because it was the first oil well in the City of Tulsa limits.
City leaders want to encourage creativity from the artists to help them interact and come away with a better understanding of the site.
"There are model trains and other pieces of Route 66 memorabilia on the site. Again it is all volunteer run and so this piece of art will become a part of Route 66 and therefore a part of Tulsa’s legacy," said Juniper Hentz, City of Tulsa.
The city has $20,000 to use toward work on the art piece. City leaders hope to break ground on the project sometime in the spring.
For any interested artists, an Informational conference call will be held by the city on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
The deadline to submit an application for any interested artists is Thursday.
