Volunteers at Mercy Mission food pantry in Glenpool spend their time helping others daily. But director Gayla Seaton says one of their tools to help people is no longer there.

On Sunday morning, Seaton discovered the van used for food pickups was missing, and the back door to the pantry was busted in.

“They went in and stole all the keys that we had inside; the van key was one of them,” Seaton said.

Seaton says the van is vital to their operation and says now volunteers have to use their own cars for food pickup.

“They’re not taking it from us. They’re taking it from everybody, not just us," she said.

Seaton says they have 300 clients a month that depend on them and five outreach organizations to distribute to.

The founder of Loving Hearts Ministry in Bristow Dove, Morgan Schmidt, loads up at least once a week.

“This is so unfortunate. It’s so awful that something like this would happen. Mercy Mission, all they do is just give to the people and bless people, especially right now during Christmas; I can’t believe anyone would do this,” she said.

But Seaton says this setback only motivates them to carry on.

“Oh yeah, we’ll keep going, we have to keep going, it's not gonna stop us,” she said.

Seaton says they have no idea who did this, but police are involved and working to find the missing van. Give Glenpool Police a call at 918-322-8110 if you have any information.
