Two people are dead after a motorcycle crashed while fleeing law enforcement in Chouteau on Thursday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
A deputy was stopping the motorcycle, but by the time the deputy turned around to get the bike less than a block away, the biker hit and killed a pedestrian, the Mayes County Sheriff's Office said.
The pedestrian who was killed was identified by OHP as 27-year-old John Farmer of Chouteau.
The motorcyclist, 30-year-old Brent Maner of Chouteau, also died following the crash, according to OHP.
OHP said Maner was traveling west on Main St. in Chouteau, fleeing from law enforcement. While traveling west on Main St., Maner hit Farmer with the motorcycle, OHP said.
One witness said she heard and saw the bike speeding down her street just near the scene before hearing the motorcycle stop and sirens start.
OHP is leading this investigation.
