City Leaders in Hominy say they are facing a water emergency due to several waterline breaks across town and increased use.

They are asking people to use as little water as possible while crews work around the clock to get pipes fixed.

The mayor of Hominy says many water pipes throughout the city are already aging and in need of repair, so with the frigid temps, it's just making things worse.

Crews are working around the clock to get water levels back where they need to be, facing frigid temps and broken pipe after broken pipe.

"By the time they get caught up, they're back behind again, so it's something that's really hard to stay ahead of," said Mayor Donnie Reed.

He says they've already patched six busted lines on Monday, but more keep popping up.

"We've got so many that are old and breaking that every time it gets cold, you never get caught up with the breaks, and we're to the point right now where the breaks in the lines are out-running the guys," said Reed.

Mayor Reed says the water supply tanks are about 10 feet lower than normal. That's why they're asking people to limit water by not doing laundry or the dishes, anything to save water until they can get things under control.

"Right now, our water tanks are getting low. We're not out, but we don't want it to get to that point, so we're trying to conserve now. That way, we don't have that issue. We get to that issue, and then that's a whole different ballgame," said Reed.

Reed says they only have a crew of 3 to tackle this big job. The Mayor himself even picked up a shovel to help.

"We've got people from the community helping; everybody kind of works together and makes it happen; that's one thing about hominy, if there's a problem, there's a lot of people that's willing to get in there and help," said Reed.

City leaders say if you have a water leak or have little to no pressure, call (918) 885-4545 and press option 3.
