Javon Small hit a go-ahead triple with 53 seconds remaining and Oklahoma State held on to defeat West Virginia, 70-66, on Saturday in Oklahoma State's annual Remember the Ten game.
For the Cowboys (9-11), Saturday's result marked their first win in Big 12 play, while the Mountaineers (7-13) slid to 2-5 in conference action.
The Cowboys had only one other lead in the final 10 minutes before Small's go-ahead shot gave them a 67-66 lead. Noah Farrakhan then missed in the paint, but Akok Akok grabbed the offensive rebound. He lost possession on a steal by Brandon Garrison, who was fouled and made two free throws for the Cowboys.
Garrison's final pair of foul shots marked his seventh and eighth makes at the charity stripe on Saturday. He matched a career-high 20 points (6-of-8 FG) with a career-best four steals in the game. For Garrison, his pair of 20-point outings makes him the first OSU freshman to log two-or-more 20-point games since Cade Cunningham, who posted 14 en route to his No. 1 overall selection.
In the closing moments, Akok missed a three for West Virginia, OSU's Bryce Thompson made one free throw, then Kobe Johnson's 3-pointer was off the mark for the Mountaineers.
Small joined solid company on the night with a stat line of 15 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, becoming the first OSU player since Marcus Smart to post a 15-point double-double with seven assists in a game. Wright also captured double-figures with 10 points.
Kerr Kriisa made 6-of-8 threes and led West Virginia with 21 points before fouling out. Quinn Slazinski scored 18 and made 4-of-6 threes.
Oklahoma State heads on the road to face No. 7-ranked Kansas on Tuesday at 8 p.m. CT.
