Between classes and after-school activities, kids are busy.
With all the energy they use, it can be hard to keep them fed.
Just before the students at Preston High School are dismissed at the end of the day, Jessica Thomason makes sure all 220 kids get a third meal for free.
The program started just last Tuesday, and each student receives a snack box and a milk.
"This particular one right here is a beef jerky option,” Thomason said. “It has some teddy grahams, some cheese. I think these are raisins, and it has a juice."
Thomason receives shipments weekly, and it's more than just a snack. Some of these kids might not have food when they get home.
"Over fifty percent of our students are at a free or reduced-priced lunch, so we knew that there was a need to have another option for them," she said. "We are a smaller community, so we felt it was very important to be able to offer this third meal option for our students.”
It's only been a week, but Thomason says the students have enjoyed having something to eat during the last hour of their day.
"By three o'clock, they are ready for something else,” she said. "We felt like these prepackaged meals were so easy."
So easy and so helpful to growing kids.
"I don't know a student here that isn't hungry after school."
