Child Struck By Vehicle Outside Sapulpa Elementary School On Tuesday

A child was hit by a car Tuesday morning outside of a Sapulpa elementary school in what police are calling an accident.

According to Sapulpa Police, a grandmother was dropping off her grandkids at Holmes Park Elementary, and when she was pulling out she hit a seven-year-old girl. Police say the woman was looking left and didn’t notice the child walking across the exit drive of the school. The woman kept driving, later telling police she just thought she had hit the curb.

Investigators said the child was alert and talking but had some injuries. They were taken to the hospital but police did not have a description of her injuries. A representative with Saplupa Public Schools said that the superintendent visited the hospital and spoke with the parents and medical staff.

The school district released the following statement:

Dear Sapulpa families,

An elementary student was hit by a vehicle outside of Holmes Park Elementary this morning before school. Holmes Park administrators immediately utilized the Rave Mobile Safety App to alert our security team, first responders, and administration.

The student was alert and talking, but was taken to the hospital. Sapulpa Public Schools Superintendent Rob Armstrong and Assistant Superintendent Johnny Bilby visited the hospital and spoke with the student's mother. The student is stable and the hospital is running further tests.

Sapulpa Public Schools urges extreme caution to anyone driving in school zones and while dropping off and picking up students. We are grateful to Sapulpa Police Department, Creek County Ambulance Service, and Sapulpa Fire Department for their rapid response. Sapulpa Police officers are investigating the incident.

Sapulpa Police said that they were able to identify the driver using cameras at the school. They said she wasn't speeding when the incident happened.

When police spoke to the driver at her house they said she was distraught when she heard about what had happened and appeared to have no clue. Police said the driver the woman is cooperating with the investigation fully.

Sapulpa Police said that they believe this was a complete accident, and will provide more information as when it is available.
