Broken Arrow City Councilors and the Youth City Council will soon head to Washington D.C. to learn how to advocate for the city and improve quality of life in their communities.

Broken Arrow's Youth City Council, along with other youth city councils from across the country, will attend the National League of Cities to meet with federal and local leaders to get a better understanding of how government works.
The seniors on the Youth City Council will watch as Broken Arrow city councilors discuss ideas to improve issues in Broken Arrow for things such as water and infrastructure.
City Councilor Johnnie Parks said this conference is a good way for young people to learn more about a government they could potentially take over one day.
"They come and meet with some of the older individuals also the youth to do in some of our meetings," Johnnie Parks, the Broken Arrow City Councilor At Large said. "They get to know councilmen and mayors from all over the nation, so it kind of gives them an in road into which way they want to go."
The Youth City Council will also be able to sit in on committee meetings that interest them to learn how it operates and what it takes to get funding for a project.
