Oklahoma Historical Society Holding Statewide Scavenger Hunt

Spring Break is only a couple of weeks away, and parents will be looking for things to do with their kids.

The Oklahoma Historical Society is holding a travel contest during the month of March for people who visit historical sites.

There are more than 20 historical sites people can visit across the state.

The agency is challenging people to visit as many as they can and to take a picture during their time at the different sites for a chance to win a prize!

While cruising through Oklahoma, you may drive by one of the many historical sites like the Will Rogers Memorial Museum.

Bart Taylor takes people on tours about Will Rogers and says all of the different sites have special programming going on during the travel contest.

"It's an awesome way for you to connect to your local history and connecting kids,” he said. “When they say history is boring, take them to these places, check out all the different programs that we do, and show them that history is not boring and something we can all connect to."

There are 24 different spots people can stop and visit.

From the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid to the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library in Guthrie, Taylor says this can be a fun way to learn about what happened in the state.

"History is one of the most inclusive things,” said Taylor. “Warts and all, we belong to that history, and when you go to these sites, it may be the first time your kids see something; maybe you are going to create a memory that lasts a lifetime."

The person who goes to the most sites will win a prize.

There are two options for prizes--you can either go to the Oklahoma Historical Society Center for a private tour with the director or you can ride in a float in the 200th historic parade in Fort Gibson.
