The City of Wagoner has a new tool to help make sure everyone is informed about emergencies and other events.
The city said it's gotten several requests for a service like this. Staff said they're glad to finally have one in place.
The city is sending out postcards and brochures with utility bills telling people about the program.
People can scan the QR code, go to the website, call, or mail in their sign-up information. Citizens can also choose if they want to get a phone call, text, or email from the city.
When there's an alert, the city will send out notifications to everyone who signed up.
Wagoner said a lot of its citizens said they don't like using technology or couldn't find information online. So the new system will make sure they don't miss anything important.
"We wanted to make sure to make it easy for everyone to use. So whether you're tech savvy or not tech savvy, this can be for anyone," said Kristen Mallett with the City of Wagoner.
Wagoner also said the system lets the city target specific addresses and areas for alerts. That way, if there's a power outage or street closure, the city can send an alert just to the people impacted by the event.
