It is March 14th, more famously known as Pi Day. That is because the first three digits in Pi are 3.14.
The mathematical constant 3.14 represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. However, the national holiday established in 2009 has become about so much more.
Local businesses like Antoinette Bakery & Cafe in the Tulsa Arts District are getting behind it to celebrate in their own unique way.
"We love pie day because it allows us to make different pies that we would not normally make," said co-owner Molly Martin.
Inside the bakery's cold case are 15 different dessert pie flavors and two savory choices.
Martin said her favorites this year are the White Chocolate Cookies and Cream pie and German Chocolate pie. Antoinette's is also serving its classics like the Mile High pie and Key Lime pie. "Those are always fan favorites," said Martin.
The business first opened 12 years ago in Tulsa's Brookside and moved locations a few years later. Martin started it with her childhood best friend Andrea Mohn. "Andrea and I have been friends since we were 12, so a long time," added Martin.
Since then, they have added a third partner in Cameron Andrews. Martin said what has kept them going is the ability to be a part of everyday celebrations.
"We love to celebrate food, we love it to be part of your lives, and so it just gives us a fun opportunity to have a party," she said.
Antoinette Bakery & Cafe is open Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The bakery is located at 207 North Main Street in downtown Tulsa.
