An active day of severe weather in Green Country on Thursday included large hail, heavy rain, and a tornado in McIntosh County, according to the National Weather Service.
NWS Tulsa reports that the EF0 tornado touched down approximately three miles south of Hoffman near Tiger Mountain, in McIntosh County at 1:44 p.m. Researchers said it was only on the ground for about three minutes and emergency management in McIntosh and Okmulgee counties said the damage was mainly to trees and outbuildings.
This tornado developed just south of I-40, about half a mile east of the Okmulgee/McIntosh County line. It moved northeast snapping large tree limbs and damaging an outbuilding, before it dissipated prior to reaching Eufaula Lake. The tornado was reported by a storm chaser, who recorded it after it crossed I-40. EF0 tornados usually record winds between 65 to 85 mph. The estimated peak wind for Thursday's tornado was 75-80 mph.
