Oklahoma City Police continue their investigation at a southwest Oklahoma City home where five people died.
Two of the victims were children and students at Mustang Public Schools. As police search for answers, Mustang school leaders wanted parents and students to know support is available.
An email hit the inboxes of parents on Monday afternoon Mustang Public Schools superintendent Charles Bradley revealed the news to families about the deaths of two students killed in a home in southwest Oklahoma City.
Bradley wrote, “We are shocked, and our hearts are broken; this tragedy simply defies understanding.” Mustang school leaders said one of the victims was a sixth-grade student -- another a ninth-grade student. Another person was a recent MPS graduate.
Police arrived at a welfare check in southwest Oklahoma City near Southwest 29th Street and Czech Hall Road just after 9:30 a.m. on Monday. “They made entry into the home and did indeed find five people in there who are diseased,” said MSgt. Gary Knight, with the Oklahoma City Police Department. “The five people had injuries all consistent with homicide.”
Knight revealed the few details his office could release early in an investigation. “At this point just very basic preliminary information,” Knight said. "We hope to have more information for you later.”
Mustang superintendent Bradley wrote, “Our Crisis Response Team has been present at schools today and will continue to be in place moving forward for as long as they are needed.” Mustang administration said they wanted parents to know no one should grieve at this moment alone. “This is a difficult time for everyone, but I know our students and staff will lean on each other through this time,” Bradley said.
“It’s a very tragic – very sad situation,” Knight said.
Mustang school leaders encouraged parents to listen to their children affected by this situation. They said it is important to have conversations and to show support.
Police have yet to identify the victims in this case. News 9 expects to get another update from investigators on Tuesday.
