A man accused of attacking an Embark bus driver, causing it to crash into a metro business, has been in trouble with the law before, according to court filings.
Court filings show Tihron Harrison is a felon. The filings show 2023 he pleaded guilty to taking clandestine photos of a juvenile in a public restroom.
A new video released Wednesday from inside the city bus captured Tihron Harrison getting angry after the bus driver refused to let him out at an active train intersection.
The suspect began punching the bus driver in the face and removed him from the driver’s seat,” said Oklahoma City Police Lt. Jeff Cooper.
The driver fell to the ground as he was scratched and punched. Filings show the victim believed Harrison was "going to stomp him in the head" when another passenger intervened.
The driver tried to stand up to regain control of the bus, but it was too late. “This caused the bus to leave the roadway and run into the lumber business,” said Cooper.
The driver was still in his seatbelt when he was thrown forward as the bus crashed into a brick building occupied by its new owners. They were in the other side of the building when the bus made contact with it, so they heard the collision but were not injured
Four passengers on the bus suffered minor injuries. The bus driver remains off work with bumps and bruises.
“When you run into a situation like that no matter how much training you have, it's very difficult to prepare for somebody really assaulting you while you're operating a vehicle in motion, from that standpoint, i think the operator handled it as well as could be expected,” said Jason Ferbrache, Director of City Public Transportation.
Harrison ran from police but they say he was quickly captured and arrested.
